Base / Build / Peak Training Philosophy

Wasatch Training

We believe in a structured approach to preparing our athletes for their best as the season progresses. Our training program is divided into three distinct phases to optimize skill development, endurance, and strength. The further we are away from the races, the less our training resembles the race, and the closer we get to the race, the more our training mirrors the race.

Training Phases

Preseason-

April-May:

These are great months to get outside, enjoy the start of spring, and start your personal riding and fitness building. This is when you will build your initial base for our MTB season. Have fun, explore, enjoy building your cardiovascular fitness and engaging your muscles and prepare for a fun, productive season.

Official Season Starts-

June-July:

During these months, our primary focus is on skill enhancement, increasing endurance, and building strength. We dedicate this period to honing fundamental skills, gradually extending training durations, and improving overall strength with on and off-bike strength training.

August-September:

As we approach the competitive season, August and September are dedicated to building intensity in preparation for our initial four races. We are intentional about training sessions aimed at preparing athletes for the challenges ahead and ensuring they are ready with technical skills, intensity, and mental strength. How you do something is how you do everything.

October:

The month of October marks the pinnacle of our training, focusing on achieving peak performance and being in good form for the State championships. We fine-tune race strategies, optimize physical conditioning by lowering the amount of work, and ensure that our athletes are in their best shape and mentally prepared to excel.
